In our hyperconnected but physically very disjointed world, it can be difficult to create a shared sense of community. Watercooler conversations that can take place naturally in an office setting are hard to replicate across different locations, let alone countries or even continents. This is a common challenge to international business and one that is shared by Fincons Group, which has offices in various parts of the world, such as in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, the UK, the USA and India.
Add to this the fact that more and more professionals work remotely, or on client site, and it becomes clear that creating communities that share a common culture, vision and energy is increasingly complex.
Technology as a bridge rather than a barrier
In the world of IT, it is only natural that we should turn to tech for support in helping bridge the distance between people and teams. Leveraging Viva Engage communities, Fincons' internal social platform, is one of the ways technology brings us closer on everyday basis: from offering experiences and tips on different platforms and solutions, to sharing interests, hobbies and passions, communities can span a huge breadth of topics.
Communities that started as places to share knowledge and information such as the Java Spring Time, Microsoft Azure or Frontend JS framework communities, now live side-by-side with personal interest communities such as the Fincons Book Club, Intercultural Exchange and even Table Tennis groups.
Community as infrastructure for inclusion
One of the things we have learned in building our approach to company culture over the years is that it does not change through mandates but through connection. It is conversations, shared experiences, and moments of recognition that truly shift how people see themselves and each other. Our Viva Engage communities offer a safe space for people to get to know each other better both professionally and personally. Their aim to break down barriers to bring people closer to each other and to a sense of common purpose.
EmpowHer: inclusion with a pink twist
Launched to coincide with International Women's Day, EmpowHer is a community on Viva Engage that provides a dedicated space for all Fincons people to engage thoughtfully and positively with topics relating to female empowerment.
EmpowHer is the latest expression of an equality commitment that Fincons has been building deliberately and consistently over the years. Through our DE&I Committee, we have been working to create a company culture that is not just open to difference but genuinely enriched by it.
With our international presence, we’ve seen that teams composed of people with different backgrounds, expertise, and identities perform better and drive greater innovation. That’s why ensuring that all workers feel welcome and seen is critical to our success.
Join us on EmpowHer
The community is designed to be a living thing, not a notice board. It is a place to share initiatives and events, to surface ideas and reflections, to celebrate what women inside and outside our company are doing. It is a space that belongs to anyone that chooses to show up for it with kind, honest, constructive conversations that enrich everyone's professional journey, regardless of gender.
We want to support and grow that spirit of curiosity and openness that is built through interaction and sharing. How we listen to one another, how we make space for voices that might otherwise go unheard are the way our values are made manifest. Choosing to build communities at work that reflect the world we want to be part of is another step towards a more inclusive future.
We love seeing our communities grow and are excited for EmpowHer to develop into a thriving digital space.
