In the last few years, the approach to job hunting has undergone a significant transformation, particularly among new generations. Unlike their predecessors who often prioritized a company's prestige and traditional markers of success, today's candidates place value also on other aspects of the work experience. They carefully research potential employers for their commitment to sustainable practices, employee welfare, flexibility, and opportunities for professional growth.
This shift reflects broader societal changes, where values such as environmental responsibility, work-life balance, and inclusive workplace cultures have become paramount. Many companies are investing in these areas, thereby attracting top talent.
Recently, we’ve had the opportunity to chat with Fabriana Andreani, better known on social media as @fabianamanager, about the new generations’ approach to job hunting, the importance of investing in training, welfare and sustainability and the communicative power of social media.
After a PhD in Japanese linguistics, Fabiana started her career working at some of Italy's leading Business Schools, where for over 10 years she guided young talents in their post-graduate career paths. This experience gave her the chance to witness both sides of the same coin: on the one hand she had access to company strategies aimed at acquiring talent; on the other she was privy to the challenges, doubts, and aspirations of young graduates in search of a new job or their first employment.
Her foray into social media in 2019, marked a significant shift. Through short, insightful videos, she provided career advice, from crafting resumes to acing interviews, which resonated deeply with her audience. In 2022, Fabiana decided to quit her job to become a freelancer and fulltime content creator focusing on career advice for under 35s.
“Social media platforms have become powerful tools for disseminating professional advice and information” explains Fabiana. “In just a few years, the way people go about job hunting has completely changed. Social media, and particularly TikTok and LinkedIn, are now more than ever the key to reaching young professionals.”
Today’s job seekers prioritize more than just the prestige of a company. They look for environments that offer growth opportunities, clear communication, and a commitment to employee welfare. Companies that provide clear career paths, competitive salaries, and continuous learning opportunities stand out. Young professionals value transparency, from the recruitment process to feedback mechanisms, as well as the possibility to work in flexible environments. “They look for a different approach to leadership and responsibility, and for job opportunities that allow them to personalise the way they work” explains Fabiana.
Investing in the training and development of young employees is therefore crucial. Companies that offer workshops, courses, and continuous learning platforms not only enhance their talent pool but also attract potential candidates. Initiatives like the Fincons Academy – the company’s business school that offers young talents free courses to further their education and enter the work environment - exemplify how companies can create a lasting impact by fostering educational partnerships. Such efforts help build a community of well-informed, skilled individuals who are more likely to consider these companies for future opportunities.
“New generations also place high value on sustainability and social issues” highlights Fabiana. Young professionals are keenly aware of an organization's environmental and social impact. They appreciate companies that demonstrate a genuine commitment to sustainable practices, diversity, and community engagement.
These investments lead to a more engaged, motivated, and loyal workforce, which in turn drives innovation and success. As the expectations of young professionals evolve, companies must adapt and prioritize these key areas to stay competitive and relevant in the modern business world.
Fincons’ greatest asset is their people, and the Group works every day toward an environment in which professional growth comes along with human fulfilment. That is why Fincons invests in continuous training and firmly believes in the positive impact choices and initiatives can have on the way people work and live, and ultimately on the planet.
By fostering a culture of continuous learning, innovation, transparent communication, and social responsibility, companies can create a positive and productive environment that attracts top talent and retains valuable employees. This approach not only benefits the individuals but also contributes to the overall growth and sustainability of the organization.
