HEAVEN – Higher-education and Enterprises interaction to develop Artificial intelligence-based Video inspections in special manufacturing Environments – is set to revolutionize water infrastructure management by integrating robotic video inspection and Artificial Intelligence to automatically detect pipeline anomalies, reduce waste, and improve operational efficiency.
Launched under the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), HEAVEN aims to significantly reduce water loss through next-generation technologies. The core solution is the development of a service powered by machine learning and deep learning techniques that represents a major advancement in the automatic detection of pipeline issues. The service aims at analysing video streams, accurately mapping water networks, and identifying anomalies, enabling rapid and targeted interventions that minimize downtime and enhance service quality.
Fincons brings its system integration expertise and experience from previous research initiatives to the project, designing, developing, and integrating cloud components for data acquisition. The company also supports EKSO—a leader in sensor-equipped pipeline technologies—in implementing Artificial Intelligence models.
The collaboration between universities, local authorities, and companies ensures a multidisciplinary and integrated approach, essential to tackling the complex challenges of water infrastructure management. This innovative strategy not only enhances operational efficiency but also contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing water waste and optimizing resource usage.
