Verde Digitale

Innovation, Sustainability, and Safety in the Agri-Food Supply Chain

Monitoring and certification of agricultural practices through innovative technologies, ensuring transparency, sustainability, and food safety.

Verde Digitale is an innovative project that aims to transform the certification and monitoring of agricultural practices by integrating advanced technologies to ensure safety, sustainability, and transparency throughout the entire agri-food supply chain. The initiative responds to the EU’s objectives of promoting sustainable agricultural practices and preventing fraud and non-compliance that undermine consumer trust and market integrity.

The project delivers a pilot solution that combines blockchain, smart contracts, satellite remote sensing, eXplainable AI (XAI) models, and a citizen science mobile app. This system enables the implementation of a blockchain-based digital farm logbook, ensuring that all information on agricultural practices is transparent, immutable, and verifiable. Advanced analysis of satellite imagery, supported by XAI, enables continuous and objective monitoring of farmland conditions and automatic detection of discrepancies between declared and observed practices. All system alerts and decisions are accompanied by clear, understandable explanations, supporting the monitoring and certification of agricultural practices and fostering sustainable agri-food production.

Within this initiative, Fincons Group leads the analysis and design of traceability systems to support auditing in the agri-food sector, developing, testing, and integrating the technological prototype.

The project is funded by the Apulia Region under the ERDF 2021–2027 – Axis I, Action 1.5 (“Support for Collaborative Research” public call). It involves a multidisciplinary consortium including CIA Puglia Servizi, Studio Birardi, Masvis, the University of Bari Aldo Moro, and CREA – the Council for Agricultural Research and Economics. Together, they contribute technical, scientific, legal, and regional expertise to develop innovative agri-food monitoring and certification solutions.

The implementation of this solution aims to strengthen consumer trust, increase transparency across the supply chain, and encourage the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices in line with European policies.
